Has anyone been able to do this? I can embed the login widget in a template or page and make it popup but I'm having trouble forwarding the user correctly. Thanks.

yup, download the development version on wordpress.org, I'm just doing some final testing but it's stable.

Where do I go to access the dev versions? Is there a Trac svn somewhere? Thanks.

Mind you, I just realized you wanted the login bit to pop out as well, there is one template which pops out the registration but not the login bit. However, if you know a little coding it probably wouldn't take much to make the login work on there too.

Okay so the inline registration forwards user to a custom "register page" correct? Not a modal or lightbox popup? And yes I would want to have both the register and login pages show up in a fancybox (lightbox) modal popup. How would I do this? have and use fancybox popups to display pages with a custom template already for other info on the site. Thanks.

I would be happy to sponsor an hour of work if you would be able to help me get it working with a fancybox popup window. So that on submission it closes and logs in or registers or whatever. Thanks in advance. Please contact me asap.

It's possible to have a modal popup just for the registration at the moment, and the registration is done with no redirects, only AJAX.
Sure, if you'd like to sponsor the login bit we could make another template for everyone. Will contact you via email.
